Walking by the Ginza Nissan Showroom (in 5-Chome at the 4-Chome intersection), I idly looked in the window and noticed a familiar car: "Hmm... the lime-green Figaro [officially "emerald green"?]. ..... Wait... where did I last see that...? !!!!! I saw that last weekend while watching one of my old videos from 1991!! Whoa!! Time slip dude!" So naturally, I walked in and asked the models (biped variety) at the counter inside the door about the model (fire-breathing variety) in the window. They confirmed that it was a 1991 model and was on display for historical reasons. I went in for pictures and talked about the car some more with another beautiful biped model inside (standing by the car) who told me that not only is it the same model that I saw in March 9th, 1991 (19 years ago to the very day!), but it was the very same car! (Apparently Nissan has a storage facility to keep examples of its various models.) She also explained that it was a limited production special edition with only 20000 units built. I came to Roseville from Mexico in 1951 and married a man by the name of Leonard Trevizo, who had just moved here from Texas. We just happened to meet here. We had eight children, five girls and three boys; Maria, Margie, Lupe, Leonard Jr., Antonio, Albert, Isabel, and Olga. My husband passed away in 2005. He retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad. I started getting involved in the community because I had children in three schools; Kaseberg, Woodbridge, and Warren T. Eich. That was how you got out of the house in those days. Between 1960 and 1970, I saw the necessity for translating for the Latinos in the community. The Head Start program initiated me by sending me to school for training. We started canvassing the neighborhood house-to-house with a few other women enrolling children in the Head Start program. We had more problems convincing the mothers to let their children go than it was getting the children to attend the program. The mothers had a hard time letting go. By 1969, we already had enough children to start five centers in Placer County. It got to the point where we had to educate the parents side by side with the children. I became a member of the Placer County Concilio with a few other members from Loomis, Rocklin, Lincoln, and Roseville. Concilio sponsored several services for children and adults such as summer camps, breakfast for low income children, interpretation, a food bank, and emergency services. It became for all races, but 80% was for Latinos ...

I live in Oakland. I moved here in January of 2000. I moved with my then boyfriend, now my husband, Tony. We moved here together as a young couple at the beginning of our adult life, looking for a community that we could start a life in. Looking for a place that we could start jobs, build a career, looking for a place where we could set roots. And that's what we found here in Oakland and in particular East Oakland. When we first moved to Oakland we lived around the lake. And we got married at the Lake Merritt sailboat house. Then we moved to Fruitvalle wheni started working at La Clinica de la Raza. I worked for six years for the Clinica Teen Altavista program as a social worker, working primarily with young teen mothers, pregnant and parenting teens from the community. At that job I was a home visitor, so I spend a lot of time in many East Oakland homes, meeting many wonderful families in our community. We then spend a little bit of time living in North Oakland saving money so we could buy a house, which we ended up doing in December of 2003 here in East Oakland. Were ten blocks away from the Eastmont Library. We have done a lot of work renovating our home making it a place where we can feel happy to be in. I hope that by telling my story other women will get yearly mammograms in order to diagnose cancer at it's earliest stages. I had my first mammogram at 35 because my Mom is a breast cancer survivor. I forgot about scheduling yearly exams until I was 39. Four months ago, I had a routine physical that included a mammogram at my request. I remember that it was painful, but figured I wouldn't have to worry about it for another year. However, a few days later, I was told the radiologist wanted to do a repeat mammogram. I figured it was still routine and went to have it done. The doctor talked to me afterward and said he saw some calcification on my left breast and that I could either wait 6 months to see if it changed or get a biopsy immediately. I asked him what he would tell his wife or daughter to do. He said he'd tell them to get a biopsy ASAP. I didn't understand the significance of calcification and didn't do any research at that time because I wanted to pretend that this was still normal and that my breast had just changed due to age. About 2 weeks later, I was informed that I have ductal cell carcinoma in situ, a type of "pre-cancer" that is contained in one of my milk ducts and I was terrified. From "Low-Rider Tables" to "Raza Writers" : A grassroots campus struggle Does it seem like our communities must always be vigilant? San Jose State University and the City of San Jose made an agreement to join our libraries sometime in the nineties. We of the Chicano/Latino Faculty and Staff Association (CLFSA) were involved to insure that our Chicano Library Resource Center, our students, and our contributions to the university community would be integrated into the joint library. We won the right to have a corner of the building that honored the gains we have made for our community over the course of many decades. Little did we know we would now face a new battle regarding art and community representation. In 2001 we found out there was a proposal for the commissioned art for the new library where item Number 17 pertained to the Chicano/Latino community. We were thrilled that planning included art since we had so many murals and images that were part of our Chicano Library Resource Center. What was not so thrilling was that the proposal included a mock-up that purported to commemorate the low rider car culture of Latino youth and the Latino community as a whole. On Saturday 27th June 2009, me, Megan and her friend Lorna set off early (7am) to climb 2 munros and a corbett, namely Beinn Narnain, Beinn Ime and Ben Arthur (The Cobbler). We started out at 9am from the Succoth car park at the top of Loch Long, just round from Arrochar. Despite having scoured google maps, we missed the start of the old hydro electric path and did the newer zig-zag path up until it meets the "road" near the Mobile phone mast. We then headed right along the road, left takes you via more zig zags to the cobbler path. We picked up the traditional path a few hundred yards down. Its quite steep to get onto it from the road, as the stream runs down here. You walk over lots of old concrete foundations as you ascend this path, until eventually you are at the top in some open fern land. A path leads off to the left and that meets the cobbler path again (we came back this way from the Cobbler). You start to get great views from here, and it involves some scambling at points. Eventually we caught a glipmpse of The Cobbler which had mist in the centre but we saw the two outside peaks. After that, the mist rolled in. It was so eerie, only being able to see 10 feet in front of you. As we gained height we felt the presence of "The Spearhead" - A quite awesome rock, even enshrouded in mist! We scrambled up the side of it and that was us, on the Plateux. We heard a group at the trig point, so followed the noise. Some guy was celebrating 1000 munros ...

I saw this on the TV show "Time Warp" and thought that I could do that. Well it turns out that Noah and I could do it! I was a little surprised at how small the parameter space was to achieve a good series of bounces. Near the end of this clilp, you can see waves entering from the lower right. I think these are reflections of a low frequency sloshing modes set up by the initial droplet. The smallest droplet bounces off these waves and start moving off to the side. In any case it is pretty cool. The only issue is that there was some dust on the sensor (dark spots that don't move). The camera is a Vision Research Phantom v7.3 high speed video camera.
